Former Judge

Former Judge Aletia Haynes Timmons is a distinguished legal professional, community advocate, and dedicated public servant whose career spans nearly four decades. Her unwavering commitment to justice, fairness, and service has defined her work as an attorney, judge, mentor, and civic leader.

A proud graduate of John Marshall High School (1979), Judge Timmons earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science with a minor in History from Oklahoma State University in 1983. She went on to receive her Juris Doctor from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1986. That same year, she was admitted to the Oklahoma Bar Association and is licensed to practice in the Western, Eastern, and Northern Districts of the United States District Courts, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.

Legal Career

Before her election as District Judge in 2014, Judge Timmons built an extensive and impactful legal career across public service, private practice, and corporate law. Her professional roles include:

  • Founder of Timmons & Associates, LLC (2003–2014), where she specialized in civil rights and employment law.

  • Attorney at Abel Musser, Sokolosky, Mares & Khouri, where she established and led the firm’s civil rights and employment law litigation section.

  • Deputy Chief of the Civil Division, Oklahoma County District Attorney’s Office.

  • Attorney with General Motors Legal Services, where she began her legal career.

As a law student, Judge Timmons and her moot court partner secured the University of Oklahoma’s first national championship in oral and written advocacy in 26 years. She also gained valuable judicial insight through internships with the Oklahoma Supreme Court and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.

Leadership & Community

Beyond the courtroom, Judge Timmons has demonstrated a deep commitment to justice, education, and community empowerment. Her leadership and service include:

  • Appointee of Governor David Walters to the Committee on the Status of Women.

  • Appointee of Oklahoma Supreme Court Chief Justices to the Time Standards Committee and the Access to Justice Committee.

  • Adjunct Instructor at Langston University’s Oklahoma City Campus.

  • Continuing Legal Education (CLE) speaker for the Oklahoma County Bar Association and the Oklahoma Bar Association.

  • Mentor and youth advocate, providing shadowing and internship opportunities at the Oklahoma County Courthouse.

  • Co-founder of Jamming Hoopfest, a Northeast Oklahoma City initiative addressing food insecurity while fostering mentorship and character development among youth.

  • Annual speaker for youth leadership programs, including We Rise, a teen women’s empowerment initiative in partnership with the Oklahoma City Police Department.

Judge Timmons has received numerous honors recognizing her leadership, service, and contributions to justice and equity, including:

  • Ada Lois Sipuel Fisher Diversity Award – Oklahoma Bar Association

  • President’s Dignitary Award – Teacher Appreciation Foundation
