The WORK
One of my first responsibilities was meeting the early July deadline to request Interim Studies. Interim Studies are legislative hearings that explore issues and potential legislation ahead of the 2026 legislative session, which begins in February.
Based on what I heard from you on the campaign trail, I requested approval for six Interim Studies focused on:
-
Affordable housing
-
Reading readiness
-
Workforce development
-
Repetitive scam calls
-
Treatment courts and mental health
-
Accessible and affordable childcare
All six Interim Studies were approved by the Speaker. From July through this month, I have convened experts, gathered data, and conducted public hearings, all of which were livestreamed to ensure transparency and accessibility.
Legislative Preparation & Policy Development
1
Beginning in October, I launched a series of town halls across different areas of the district to stay connected, answer questions, and ensure personal accessibility. In addition, I have spent time meeting with constituents in the community and in their homes, collaborating with local leaders and organizations, and responding directly to calls, emails, and individual concerns.
These conversations have been both meaningful and motivating, and I remain committed to being present, responsive, and accessible to everyone in House District 97.
Community Engagement & Constituent Services
2
When SNAP benefits were illegally withheld by the President and Congress, members of the Legislative Black Caucus and House Democrats demanded action to protect Oklahomans from hunger. We called on the Governor and our colleagues across the aisle to join us, while also stepping up ourselves.
Through donations, volunteer efforts, and collaboration with community partners, we worked to ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors had access to food. Once again, everyday Oklahomans showed up for one another, demonstrating the very best of who we are.
Advocacy & Crisis Response
3
Currently, we are drafting and submitting bills for consideration in the upcoming 2026 legislative session. This is a critical phase, and your input matters. If you have ideas, concerns, or priorities you would like me to consider, I encourage you to reach out.
